Near Ipod Crisis!

Who knows why things suddenly wink out and go wrong on you when you've done nothing it seems, to cause them to?

I had just made some more great video of our little Cooper - my great-nephew, and I'm putting it all up on Facebook if my computer, connection and Facebook all cooperate. Anyway, I was going to show some of it off to my sis and my parents yesterday afternoon right after shooting it. But then something annoying happened.

My Ipod external speaker stopped working.

I figured it was just the battery dying, but even that didn't make much sense since I could still turn the Ipod on and off. With a battery near death, you can't do that - it just runs down for several seconds and then dies.

So, I recharged it anyway, and then tried to review some video after I had a good sleep and the Ipod would've had plenty of time to charge up.

Nothing! The light came on and all that, but there was no sound, not even the clicker.

Wha???

I plugged in the headphones.

Oh, good, the internal speaker still worked, I could hear through the headphones.

But shucks, I need that external speaker for times I haven't got my headphones on and just want to shoot video!

So, I went online to try and find out how to fix this.

Mostly there were articles about external speaker problems on the I-touch or the Iphone (I-touch I believe I'll be getting at some point in the future if the next gen comes out with a camera as well as all it has now and more) and something about a 5th gen Ipod nano external speaker that plays even when the headphones are plugged in.

That wasn't my problem, but the solution that was suggested, "restore Ipod to factory settings" was well worth considering.

But that meant I needed to back up a copy of my videos folder and put it back on either this Ipod or another one if worse came to worse and I'd have to get a new one. And that is something I REALLY don't want to be doing, not with looking at getting an Ipad and maybe eventually an I-touch, and a better digital piano keyboard, something else I need to upgrade because of the extensive practicing I'm going to be doing during my time off.

So, I moved that video folder to my main computer, which is getting ridiculously crowded with stuff and I'm getting warnings about that as well - argh!

Then I did a restore on my Ipod.

Once that was done, I exited Itunes, and heard my Ipod say "Ipod. Music."

YES!

It wasn't broken after all, it just decided for some weird reason not to play through the external speaker!

All is right once again, and I hope this glitch does not happen in the future!

Hehe!

So, more videos soon on the way, including Cooper playing chasies and saying "I bumped my noodle!" It's the first thing you'll hear on that particular video.

There's another one where he tries to get this top-heavy little doll thing to sit up, and laughs because it keeps falling over.

There's another video where he pulls a really pouty face.

I've got one more of dance class too, when Krista was subbing for Shana on Saturday, and she had the class do what she calls "Paint the Floor" where they do a number of steps across and around the room, giving their feet a workout. She used this really neat Celtic music from her Ipod for that.

I can't record any more of my playing for dance untill I make a new stand for the Ipod to prop it upright, the last one broke in two, thankfully not while the Ipod was in it. It fell apart in my hand, actually.

Okay, so much for my Ipod almost misadventure, at least all's well that ends well, and maybe I'll have something interesting and out of the ordinary to write about again soon.

Until next time!

Couple of Weird Days

Two times when I was just going into work this week, there were a couple of weird things happening.

One day when Mom dropped me off at work and was guiding me into the building like always, this guy stopped us and told us this sob story about how his car was about to be, or had been impounded, and I forget what else was wrong, anyway, his life was a mess and he was just short something like 17 bucks to get his vehicle out of the impound.

Uh, no! Dude - not only do I think you're a scam artist and panhandler, you're making me late for my real job and you're scaring me! Get lost!

I didn't actually say this, but was thinking it basically. You want to get as far away from these leaches as possible, especially when they corner you in a parking lot. You just never know...

The very next day, I was being dropped off at work, at the other studio this time, and there was a police cruiser there. They were talking to one of the other accompanists, and then the administrator came out to verify what the accompanist was telling the police.

When I got in, I heard the story, and we were all really upset and offended by it all.

Apparently some lackwit reported the male accompanist, believing he was stalking the school! All because he arrives early on that particular week day, and since classes don't start immediately, somebody thought he was sitting there, stalking the school!

GAH!

Nothing could be further from the truth! He's the last person who would do a thing like that, you report-happy dork! He plays piano for ballet classes, same as me!

Apparently the police felt pretty badly, and they should, and I hope they informed the misguided person making the report that she/he was completely wrong about the whole thing!

This accompanist must've been mortified, hurt, shocked that anybody could report him simply for parking early at work, because they got such a heinously wrong idea about him! I was, and I would most definitely be terribly offended if anybody thought that of me.

Pretty riled about it all evening, but at least some of the others at my work and I got to vent and even joke around about it which helps.

Honestly!

So, a day off, but not really. I don't go in for work this afternoon, but I'll be working hard on a new song for church on Sunday, and we're rehearsing it tonight.
