Wild pet ban dies, state declares exotic animal amnesty

Another great post. He's right. The "It's for your safety!" is definitely a sswindle by people in power to take away our rights and our happiness, whether it's attempts at banning exotic pets or trampolines, and yes, I've seen a news story about people who wanted to ban trampolines because somebody got hurt therefore they could be considered "dangerous" please!

When they started calling these bans "safety" laws they put forth one great big assumption.  They gained one step against owners by stipulating that safety was a big deal-breaker.  Any time that they could get the lawmakers to decide that there was the slightest bit of danger then they could get votes against the right of ownership.

This is the most obvious swindle in existence.  Every activity by human or beast has some bit of danger attached to it.  They've acquired the ability to ban one thing that is no more dangerous than what we don't ban.

We have to go back and actually consider the question of whether danger should be a criteria at all.  Whoever is getting bans passed because a chimpanzee slams car doors has way too much power to abuse the idea, and this is abuse.

CT - Wild pet ban dies, state declares exotic animal amnesty

Thomas is absolutely right. It's time to stop treating pet ownership as a crime and time to tell the human-abusing anti-pet ownership people to mind their own business and stay the heck out of anyone else's.

Connecticut's laws were already too strict.  Travis was given a pass, rightly, because he was already there when the laws were passed.  The lesson here seems to be that the state doesn't really seem to care to use the already too strict laws to protect the right to legally own animals.

We can't give those people anything.  They take more than we give them and they go after the people who give them anything.  The law in Connecticut in 2003 was passed because Travis was disruptive, stopped traffic, and got out of the car and back in a few times.  Someone was being a jerk when they passed that law.  That crap is childish as well as sociopathic.  Society doesn't need that much protection against that little.

If there are going to be any legal controls at all of animal ownership, there should be nasty penalties involved if any locality, police or animal control does anything to violate the owner's rights.  Most if not all of the puppy mill raiders belong in jail.  There's an owner of a "sanctuary" in Texas who would be in jail for five hundred years or more if you stacked up the felonies that she's committed and she's on the anti-ownership side.  The same goes for that one in Florida.  The one thing that may entitle the law to do anything to anyone is the diligent practice of the protection of the rights of people who have committed no real crime.

Blackberry Cream Soda

This sounds pretty good, it might even work with other fruit flavors too. If you don't like fizz, (and I don't) you could always use plain as opposed to soda water. I know, then technically it wouldn't be a soda, but it would be a delicious fruity creamy something. :)

Blackberry Cream Soda

A summery take on a soda fountain classic.

By Regan Burns

Blackberry Cream Soda

This recipe was inspired by a classic egg cream. We know, we know: The formula for a true egg cream contains no cream at all—just milk—but the tartness of the blackberry syrup requires that cream be used here; anything else will curdle. Feel free to adjust our proportions to make a soda that suits your tastes.

TIME/SERVINGS
Total Time: Under 5 mins
Active Time: Under 5 mins
Makes: 1 drink

INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup Blackberry Syrup
1/4 cup cold heavy cream
1 cup cold soda water

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a tall glass, add blackberry syrup, followed by cream. Top with cold soda water, stir gently with a straw, and enjoy.

HSUS video

Like I said, "scumbag lawyers". That explains it, I think.
Most of these types of organizations are run by lawyers or law firms, in the background. They threaten lawsuits when their meal ticket is imperilled in any way. Remember how the "Wizard of Oz" reacted when little Dorothy pulled back the curtain?
By the way, with HSUS, I have found the names, "Meyer, Glitzenstein & Silver" associated. Big NYC law firm. To me, the whole nexus between law and lobbying and fundraising is insidious and ought to be strictly prohibited, or at least regulated and investigated on a regular basis. This is a lot like the other influential big money institutions in the US which seem to hold themselves above reproach and investigation for YEARS, until finally the fraud comes out in the open.

It's disgusting how one corrupt, bullying, lying, money-grabbing extremist organization can manage to bully sites like Youtube into pulling a video, but if anyone else tries to get a truly bad video yanked, nothing happens!

How ironic, that a country we criticize for being anti free speech would end up hosting a video that can't survive political and legal attacks in the USA...

Very Blueberry Muffins

These buttery, moist muffins are packed to the brim with blueberries, then sprinkled with sugar for a crunchy, sweet top.

By Aida Mollenkamp

Very Blueberry Muffins

Blueberry muffins may be the most commonplace muffins out there, but this tender, moist version is well beyond ordinary. Packed full of berries and finished with a sprinkling of sugar for a crunchy, sweet top, these are as well suited to breakfast as they are to an afternoon snack.

Game plan: Muffins will last up to 3 days when stored at room temperature in an airtight container.

TIME/SERVINGS
Total Time: 40 mins
Active Time: 10 mins
Makes: 12 muffins

INGREDIENTS
1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons kosher salt
3/4 cup granulated sugar, plus 2 teaspoons for topping muffins
8 tablespoons unsalted butter (1 stick), melted
1/2 cup heavy cream
2 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Heat oven to 400°F and arrange rack in middle. Place cupcake liners in a 12-well muffin pan; alternatively, butter the muffin wells. Set the pan aside.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl to break up lumps and aerate mixture; set aside.
  3. Whisk together 3/4 cup of the sugar, butter, cream, eggs, and vanilla extract in a medium bowl until smooth. Add sugar mixture and blueberries to flour mixture and stir until just evenly mixed (a few lumps will remain), about 30 strokes. (Do not overmix; the batter should be thick, but the ingredients should be evenly incorporated.)
  4. Fill the muffin wells completely and evenly sprinkle remaining 2 teaspoons sugar over top. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 20 minutes. Set the pan on a wire rack and let muffins cool in pan for 5 minutes. Remove muffins from pan and serve.

Strawberry "Shortcake on a Stick"

Baked over the fire and topped with cream for a camping treat.

By Kate Ramos

Strawberry

Sure, classic shortcakes are great, but they're a little hard to whip up when you're roughing it outdoors. Instead, shape the shortcake dough around a skewer (or cleaned-up wooden stick) and cook it over the open flame. No, it won't cook evenly—some parts of the shortcake will get charred, while the center will remain doughy and slightly undercooked—but that's the charm of it all.

This recipe was featured as part of our Wilderness Preparedness menu.

TIME/SERVINGS
Total Time: About 25 mins
Active Time: About 15 mins
Makes: 4 servings

INGREDIENTS
1 pound (about 3 cups) strawberries
1/4 cup granulated sugar
8 tablespoons unsalted butter (1 stick)
2 cups CHOW All-Purpose Baking Mix
1/2 cup heavy cream, plus extra for drizzling

INSTRUCTIONS

Before you leave home:
  1. Rinse strawberries and hull them by removing the green stem. Quarter berries and combine with sugar in a bowl; toss to coat and set aside to macerate, at least 20 minutes. The strawberries can be prepared up to 48 hours in advance and stored refrigerated in an airtight container.

At the campsite:

  1. Melt butter in a heavy skillet or pot over the fire. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  2. Briefly mix CHOW All-Purpose Baking Mix with heavy cream and melted butter in a bowl until dry ingredients have been slightly moistened.
  3. Press a handful of shortcake dough into a sausage-like shape around a cleaned stick or a metal skewer with a handle until it stays attached on its own. Cook over an open flame, rotating often, until the outside is evenly golden brown and some parts are slightly charred, about 10 minutes. (If you have too much dough on the stick, it will start to slip off as it cooks.)
  4. To serve, remove shortcake from the stick and place in a serving dish. Top with a spoonful of berries, some of the accumulated berry juice, and a generous drizzle of cream.

Picture and information on the guy who slandered Kathy B;s Kennel"

Jason Smith" has many aliases Undercover Animal-Rights Investigator - TIME. Breeders should be aware of what he looks like. He recently was instrumental in destroying a USDA breeder's business and actually getting her convicted for misdemeanor animal cruelty. It is likely he will try to duplicate that success.

"Jason" has spent time in jail for violating the law during some of his "investigations," but his most recent score against Kathy Bauck in Minnesota Dog breeder sentenced for dog torture | WDAY | , ND did not result in any prosecutions against him for trespassing, or taping conversations without the knowledge of all the parties, or anything else.

Companion Animal Protection Society We investigate puppy #### #### breeders pet shops- Companion Animal Protection Society paid "Jason" to go undercover at Kathy's facility. He taped for 6 weeks. They boiled that film down to the most incriminating four minutes or so and released it to TV broadcasters. This got us onto TV ourselves, as customers of Kathy's. Customers Say Pet Shop Is More Like #### - Team 5 Investigates News Story - WCVB Boston Watch the film in the WCVB link. You will see that owning a well-maintained and clean kennel will not spare you nor will having a USDA license.

Kathy maintains her USDA license, but it does her no good as nobody will buy her puppies. None of the film you see resulted in a conviction -- what got Kathy was her achilles' heel, that she handles her own veterinary care. The animal cruelty was a misdemeanor with minimal punishment because it was a case of trying to care for an ill animal by herself, without a veterinarian, not the infliction of harm.

Kathy alleges that "Jason" set up the situations himself after going many days with nothing good (i.e. bad) on film. So he did things like put two male dogs together with a female in heat to cause injuries. Kathy believes he also blocked another away from his food and water. These dogs then needed care, which Kathy provided on her own, without using a veterinarian. Only one of these incidents was thought by the jury to have resulted in unnecessary suffering by the dog, but one is all it takes.

I do not know whether Kathy's accusations that CAPS itself is guilty of cruelty and torture are true. But her story makes sense as it was the perfect way for them to take advantage of Kathy's belief in her own ability to provide veterinary care for her animals (she had previously been convicted of practicing veterinary medicine without a license).

Breeders should be aware, and remember what this man looks like.
