Picture and information on the guy who slandered Kathy B;s Kennel"
| Jason Smith" has many aliases Undercover Animal-Rights Investigator - TIME. Breeders should be aware of what he looks like. He recently was instrumental in destroying a USDA breeder's business and actually getting her convicted for misdemeanor animal cruelty. It is likely he will try to duplicate that success.
"Jason" has spent time in jail for violating the law during some of his "investigations," but his most recent score against Kathy Bauck in Minnesota Dog breeder sentenced for dog torture | WDAY | , ND did not result in any prosecutions against him for trespassing, or taping conversations without the knowledge of all the parties, or anything else.
Companion Animal Protection Society We investigate puppy #### #### breeders pet shops- Companion Animal Protection Society paid "Jason" to go undercover at Kathy's facility. He taped for 6 weeks. They boiled that film down to the most incriminating four minutes or so and released it to TV broadcasters. This got us onto TV ourselves, as customers of Kathy's. Customers Say Pet Shop Is More Like #### - Team 5 Investigates News Story - WCVB Boston Watch the film in the WCVB link. You will see that owning a well-maintained and clean kennel will not spare you nor will having a USDA license.
Kathy maintains her USDA license, but it does her no good as nobody will buy her puppies. None of the film you see resulted in a conviction -- what got Kathy was her achilles' heel, that she handles her own veterinary care. The animal cruelty was a misdemeanor with minimal punishment because it was a case of trying to care for an ill animal by herself, without a veterinarian, not the infliction of harm.
Kathy alleges that "Jason" set up the situations himself after going many days with nothing good (i.e. bad) on film. So he did things like put two male dogs together with a female in heat to cause injuries. Kathy believes he also blocked another away from his food and water. These dogs then needed care, which Kathy provided on her own, without using a veterinarian. Only one of these incidents was thought by the jury to have resulted in unnecessary suffering by the dog, but one is all it takes.
I do not know whether Kathy's accusations that CAPS itself is guilty of cruelty and torture are true. But her story makes sense as it was the perfect way for them to take advantage of Kathy's belief in her own ability to provide veterinary care for her animals (she had previously been convicted of practicing veterinary medicine without a license).
Breeders should be aware, and remember what this man looks like. |
Mandatory spay and neuter means pets must grow old and die without replacements. No more babies, no more pets in our homes. Stop it before it's nationwide. Sterile animals cannot replenish themselves. It's the "facts" of life.
